Music

Original poem by Rainer Maria Rilke

Take me by the hand;
it's so easy for you, Angel,
for you are the road
even while being immobile.

You see, I'm scared no one
here will look for me again;
I couldn't make use of
whatever was given,

so they abandoned me.
At first solitude
charmed me like a prelude,
but so much music wounded me.

My rendition of the poem

The simpleness for you, my angel,
what it takes to lead me by the hand,
for even though you cannot move
you are the road that leads me.

You see, loneliness, it scares me,
the thought that no one will look my way.
They threw away the real me,
for nothing in exchange.

So I find that in my loneliness,
the music helps me sleep.
I'm the one abandoned for nothing,
and music is my pain.

  1. Wonderful rewrite. You capture the essence of his idea and express it your own way - it is more like a modernization or an update. Beautiful.
